The focus of this paper is on synonymy relations between words. A cluster analysis approach is presented , aiming at partitioning the semantic space of a word -suitably defined- in regions (i.e. subgroups of synonyms of the target word) charcterised by a high degree of homogeneity and therefore interchangeability. Application to the case of italian words are presentde and discussed showing that the proposed method is able to identify different senses of a word.
