The present paper is focused on the study of the propensity of Ca-based sorbents to undergo impact damage due to high velocity collisions. A high velocity impact testing apparatus and procedure for the characterization of the fragmentation behaviour of limestone particles is described. The procedure consists of entraining limestone particles in a gas stream at controlled flow rate and impacting them against a target. Application of the proposed technique is demonstrated with reference to an Italian limestone, either raw or calcined or sulphated.

Abstract

The present paper is focused on the study of the propensity of Ca-based sorbents to undergo impact damage due to high velocity collisions. A high velocity impact testing apparatus and procedure for the characterization of the fragmentation behaviour of limestone particles is described. The procedure consists of entraining limestone particles in a gas stream at controlled flow rate and impacting them against a target. Application of the proposed technique is demonstrated with reference to an Italian limestone, either raw or calcined or sulphated.
