The paper presents an experimental study based on non-destructive (NDT) and destructive tests (DT) performed on defect-free specimens made of old chestnut wood (Castanea Saliva Mill.). The purpose is to provide reliable relationships between physical and mechanical properties and sclcromctric and resistographic parameters for characterizing the mechanical behaviour of the clear material. The study has been developed within a wide research activity aimed at the in situ mechanical evaluation of chestnut timber properties by using combined NDT techniques. Abstract
