The thermal behavior of n-pentadecylammonium chloride was reinvestigated by DSC, variable-temp. polarizing microscopy, and x-ray diffraction techniques. Three phase transitions in the solid state lead to a cryst. form in which the hydrocarbon regions of the structure seem to be conformationally molten. This gives on melting a smectic mesophase not previously reported in the literature.

Abstract
The thermal behavior of n-pentadecylammonium chloride was reinvestigated by DSC, variable-temp. polarizing microscopy, and x-ray diffraction techniques. Three phase transitions in the solid state lead to a cryst. form in which the hydrocarbon regions of the structure seem to be conformationally molten. This gives on melting a smectic mesophase not previously reported in the literature.File in questo prodotto:
