Neoadjuvant high-dose epirubicin chemotherapy for patients with locally advanced breast cancer

Sourcerecord Id Scopus 29951 ABSTRACT: There is no standard treatment for patients with locally adbvanced breast cancer. This category of patients need a multimodal approach including chemotherapy, surgery and radiotherapy. Between march 1995 and january 1997, 18 previously untreated women suffering for local advanced brast cancer were included in this study. Neoadjuvant treatment consisted in epirubicin every 21 days for 3 cycles. All patients were subjected to Madden radical mastectomy. 15 days after surgery all patients were treated with 6 cycles of CMF (Cyclophosphamide plus methotrexate plus fluorouracil. 18% had a totally clinical remission. Response rate was of 100%. After an average follow-up of 16 months all patients are alive and 16% disease-free.
