The study of the motion and the deformation of drops in micro-confined conditions, i.e. the flow through a cylindrical tube with inner diameter size close to droplet size, is a topic of growing interest, being involved in a wide range of variety of natural and technological processes, such as movement of water in soils and porous rocks, the recovery of hydrocarbons from subterranean reservoirs, multi-phase reactions. In addition, drop motion through capillaries remains a problem of considerable fundamental importance as a pore-scale model for studying the dynamics of two-phase flow through porous media.

Abstract

The study of the motion and the deformation of drops in micro-confined conditions, i.e. the flow through a cylindrical tube with inner diameter size close to droplet size, is a topic of growing interest, being involved in a wide range of variety of natural and technological processes, such as movement of water in soils and porous rocks, the recovery of hydrocarbons from subterranean reservoirs, multi-phase reactions. In addition, drop motion through capillaries remains a problem of considerable fundamental importance as a pore-scale model for studying the dynamics of two-phase flow through porous media.
