Two cases of ganglioglioma of the spinal cord are described and the other 17 reported in the literature are reviewed. Gangliogliomas of the spinal cord more often occur in infants and mainly involve the cervical region. Symptoms and signs are those of a slowly progressing cord compression. Complete surgical removal is often possible, particularly in partly cystic tumors. Radiotherapy must be reserved only for cases treated by partial removal. The prognosis is favourable, with long postoperative survival periods without tumor progression. In fact, malignant degeneration of the glial component has never been observed.

Abstract
Two cases of ganglioglioma of the spinal cord are described and the other 17 reported in the literature are reviewed. Gangliogliomas of the spinal cord more often occur in infants and mainly involve the cervical region. Symptoms and signs are those of a slowly progressing cord compression. Complete surgical removal is often possible, particularly in partly cystic tumors. Radiotherapy must be reserved only for cases treated by partial removal. The prognosis is favourable, with long postoperative survival periods without tumor progression. In fact, malignant degeneration of the glial component has never been observed.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
