Glasses have been prepared by substituting Ga2O3, B2O3 and Al2O3 for P2O5 in a base glass of composition Ag2O.1.5P2O5. Three series were prepared: Ag2O.xM2O3.(1.5 - x)P2O5 (M = B, Al, Ga); 0 less-than-or-equal-to x less-than-or-equal-to 0.2 for Al2O3, 0 less-than-or-equal-to x less-than-or-equal-to 0.4 for B2O3 and Ga2O3. All substituents are effective in increasing both the glass-transformation temperature than the electrical conductivity (nearly two orders of magnitude for the x = 0.4 glasses). The experimental data can be explained by admitting for the B2O3 a glass-forming role, for Al2O3 a network-modifying role, and for Ga2O3 an initial network-forming role changing to a network-modifying role as the substitution proceeds.

Abstract
