A new, very convenient procedure for smooth conversion of primary and secondary alcohols to their corresponding formic acid esters is described. This is based on the use of modified Vilsmeier Haak adducts, obtained from N, N-dimethylformamide and polymersupported triarylphosphine-halogen complexes.
