Abstract

Elegant and unique interpreter of a possible transformations that the images of nature may be subject, if declined through a cultural filter and the medium of the artistic expression, is the Brazilian architect Oscar Niemeyer, whose research of grandiose architectures, closely connected to landscapes of his land, is the deepest reason that has always led him to develop an innovative architectural language. It is characterized by bold sculptural volumes and plastic forms, based on the use of the reinforced concrete, but without any technological expressionism: Niemeyer's architecture is composed of fanciful forms , of generous and soft curves built in large open spaces in which the white sculptural masses sublime their metaphysical isolation. Niemeyer created a spatial-morphological system capable of arousing strong emotional feelings of wonder and enchantment. In the forms of nature lies the primary source of inspiration for Niemeyer’plans, but nature produces only random configurations whose images can generate exciting visions and inspire vibrant feelings. The human presence in this process is essential to transform the surrounding lands in a landscape, understood as the 'image of the area' not only as visual perception, but as the product of the interaction between the land and the connected emotional, cultural and psychological factors.
