In this paper the damage modelling of RC beams is analysed. The results of a wide experimental programme on beams in normal and high strength concrete are examined; the most important aspects of the monotonic and cyclic behaviour are considered, comparing the two types of concrete. The significance of local phenomena such as concrete cover spalling is underlined. The reliability of the low plastic fatigue law is verified for modelling the cyclic behaviour of RC beams; the relation between the damage functional and the cyclic degradation is analysed; the less important cumulative damage is also considered. Abstract
