The authors show that an error expression, originally derived in a paper by A. Murli and V. Patruno [Calcolo 15 (1978), no. 1, 51--58; MR0524808 (80c:65243)] for a method based on the Whittaker cardinal series, can be used to get an upper bound for the discretization error in the Fourier series methods for the inversion of the Laplace transform. The advantage of this error estimate is that it, in addition to a number of parameters, only involves the (known) Laplace transform F .
