Li20.2SiO2 glass was prepd. by the sol-gel method and the devitrification was compared to that of the corresponding oxide melt-prepd. glass. The results indicate that the gel-derived and the oxide-derived glasses have the same values for the glass transition temp. and crystal growth activation energy, and the same crystd. phases after heat treatment. The gel-derived glass has a higher nucleation rate.
