This article has the nature of an introduction to asynchronous linear motors. For these motors a description is given, in the first place, of the electromagnetic structure of the machine, which is then compared with that of traditional asynchronous motors. Presentation is then made of a general simplified theory which permits the determination of general sizing criteria. At the end of the article the relationships which mutually bind the fundamental sizes of the motor are given, together with a series of calculation tables for the obtaining of these for purposes of practical applications
