Diffusion coeffs. were measured for the α-cyclodextrin-butylurea-water ternary system at 3 av. concns. The cross coeff. D12 was ∼ 0 and D21 was large and neg. These results are in agreement with the presence of an inclusion complex whose mobility is close to that of the host cyclodextrin mols. The values of the 4 exptl. diffusion coeffs. are used to calc. a value of the inclusion const. which is in reasonably good agreement with the calorimetric value.
