The authors have derived a model for predicting the roughness coefficient of an alluvial river. Their approach was verified with hundreds of laboratory and prototype observations. However, the computation needs an iterative routine, and the main parameters are not obviously detected. Given in this discussion are the following: (1) simplifications for (4) and the Shields’ function; and (2) explicit expression for the roughness coefficient n.
