Son of Ferdinando Galli Bibbiena, Joseph became the best known in Europe of the numerous scenographers in the Bibbiena family, even surpassing the fame of his father , inventor of the “scene for angle” that breaks the stillness of the central perspective of Renaissance to introduce a dynamic effect of extraordinary intensity that came to characterize the taste of the Baroque theater. This study proposes several hypotheses and unpublished original stage sets of those “wonderful gardens” represented in the famous engraving by Giuseppe Bibbiena, too long and poorly described only as a paintings, analyzed here for their real value of “theatrical sketches”, starting point of the subsequent transposition of illusory effect in the threedimensional space of the stage, using the geometric tool of the solid accelerated perspective.
