Atmospheric loading has been recently recognized as relevant source of toxics to surface waters. Thus, these loadings should be included in advanced modeling framework of toxics. The paper proposes a generalized simplified steady-state model for contaminants budget in a lake where diffuse sources of toxics are considered. Also, a three-phase partitioning model for toxics is used. The ratio between sediments and water column concentration is estimated for different PCBs congeners and classes of settled solids.

Abstract

Atmospheric loading has been recently recognized as relevant source of toxics to surface waters. Thus, these loadings should be included in advanced modeling framework of toxics. The paper proposes a generalized simplified steady-state model for contaminants budget in a lake where diffuse sources of toxics are considered. Also, a three-phase partitioning model for toxics is used. The ratio between sediments and water column concentration is estimated for different PCBs congeners and classes of settled solids.
