In 26 patients undergoing an abdominoperineal resection for rectal cancer a detailed history of sexual function was done using a questionnaire before and after 12 months, taking in account age and tumour stage. The overrall incidence of sexual dysfunction was 65%, but only age was proved as a significant prognostic index of postoperative sexual impairment.
