Herein, we wish to report new data that DHICA possesses ef???cient hydrogen donor properties, Fe(III) reducing power and OH radical-scavenging ef???ciency in Fenton processes and show for the ???rst time that the main circulating DHICA metabolite, 6H5MICA, exhibits an antioxidant activity comparable to that of DHICA. We propose that DHICA and 6H5MICA may provide a missing key toward an understanding of the physiological signi???- cance of Dct and melanogenesis beyond the mere provision of a pigment.
