This is because they respond to a more widespread demand of work as well as to the needs generated by a general ageing of the population and the crisis of the welfare system. Employment in more traditional sectors with a prevalence of male workers (agriculture and industry) still corresponds to settlements in small- and medium-sized towns.

Abstract

*** The foreign presence in Italy has recorded a considerable increase in recent years, both in absolute terms and in terms of effect on the total resident population.
