Abstract

A theor. spinodal curve for the system water + chloroform + acetic acid at 25? is derived using a lattice model for ternary amphiphilic solns.: rod-like mols. covering the bonds of the honeycomb lattice with three-body interactions between the mol. ends assocd. to the same lattice site. The mol. model is equiv. to the std. Ising model on the same lattice; its mean-field soln. is the most appropriate for reproducing, by local fitting, the exptl. data for the binodal compn. The derived spinodal curve is in very good agreement with the spinodal compn. detd. also in the present work from the measured diffusion coeffs. recently reported for the same system.
