This paper addresses the fate of coal particles during entrained-flow gasification. More specifically, the relative importance of the parallel pathways of coal conversion associated with either entrained-flow of particles in the dispersed phase or migration of the particles to the molten ash slag and possible gasification thereon is assessed. To this end a simple 1.5D model has been set up starting from a conceptual analysis of particle-slag micromechanics. Results suggested that the role of the slag on late carbon conversion is significant, and highlighted the need of a proper choice of parameters such as slag viscosity and velocity, carbon flux impacting the slag and overall bulk-to-wall mass-transfer coefficient.

Abstract
This paper addresses the fate of coal particles during entrained-flow gasification. More specifically, the relative importance of the parallel pathways of coal conversion associated with either entrained-flow of particles in the dispersed phase or migration of the particles to the molten ash slag and possible gasification thereon is assessed. To this end a simple 1.5D model has been set up starting from a conceptual analysis of particle-slag micromechanics. Results suggested that the role of the slag on late carbon conversion is significant, and highlighted the need of a proper choice of parameters such as slag viscosity and velocity, carbon flux impacting the slag and overall bulk-to-wall mass-transfer coefficient.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
