Standards regulating thermal comfort assessment to periodic revision cycles and public reviews are continuously submitted. This work deals with an in-depth analysis of the last revision of the ISO 7730 standard highlighting how a certain ambiguity in the PMV calculation phase, combined with a great index sensitivity to both subjective and physical parameters measurement accuracy, results in a wrong thermal environment evaluation, with the consequent “randomness” in the building classification.

Abstract

Standards regulating thermal comfort assessment to periodic revision cycles and public reviews are continuously submitted. This work deals with an in-depth analysis of the last revision of the ISO 7730 standard highlighting how a certain ambiguity in the PMV calculation phase, combined with a great index sensitivity to both subjective and physical parameters measurement accuracy, results in a wrong thermal environment evaluation, with the consequent “randomness” in the building classification.
