The paper presents some results and reflections coming from the author's experience in giving courses for future elementary teachers. The general methodology (of a constructivistic character) is described: in particular, it is argued that a participation of the learners in modelization processes starting from simple physics phenomena as well as from patterns "internal" to mathematics itself, appears an effective tool to enhance both motivation and understanding. Finally a comparison is proposed between adults' and children's behaviors, facing analogous tasks.

Abstract

The paper presents some results and reflections coming from the author's experience in giving courses for future elementary teachers. The general methodology (of a constructivistic character) is described: in particular, it is argued that a participation of the learners in modelization processes starting from simple physics phenomena as well as from patterns "internal" to mathematics itself, appears an effective tool to enhance both motivation and understanding. Finally a comparison is proposed between adults' and children's behaviors, facing analogous tasks.
