Numerical and experimental research on in-situ soil behaviour under dynamic loading conditions has been performed at the Istituto di Tecnica delle Fondazioni of the Università di Napoli Federico II. Numerical studies concerning in-situ vibration measurements, allowed for an improved understanding of the dynamic soil behaviour by the simulation of testing procedure as wave propagation in a visco-elastic continuum. The experimental applications have been accomplished by cross-hole tests performed on natural and compacted fine grained soils; the range of source to receiver spacing adopted covers the measurement fields in proximity and far from the source. In this paper some of the results obtained are summarised with reference to the techniques of analysis of the experimental measurements and to the soil behaviour observed in the near and far field ranges.
