It is presented a mathematical model useful far exploitation of gas produced from solid waste disposed in a sanitary landfill. The model is composed by two sub-modules: a biochemical one, based on the concept of half-decay time, aimed to express the production of gas as function of time and solid waste composition, and a physical one, based on mass balance equations, aimed to evaluate the amount of gas that can be extracted from vertical wells, as function of applied depressions. The model is applied to Maruzzella sanitary landfill (south of Italy) to show its potentiality.

Abstract

It is presented a mathematical model useful far exploitation of gas produced from solid waste disposed in a sanitary landfill. The model is composed by two sub-modules: a biochemical one, based on the concept of half-decay time, aimed to express the production of gas as function of time and solid waste composition, and a physical one, based on mass balance equations, aimed to evaluate the amount of gas that can be extracted from vertical wells, as function of applied depressions. The model is applied to Maruzzella sanitary landfill (south of Italy) to show its potentiality.
