Detailed quantitative maps of the heat transfer distribution near a 180° sharp turn of a square channel with rib turbulators are measured by means of infrared thermography associated with the heated-thin-foil technique. Air flows into the channel where ribs are mounted on two opposite walls and placed at 60° with respect to its axis. Two rib pitches, two different rib arrangements and two heating conditions are investigated. Results are presented in terms of local and averaged Nusselt numbers which are normalized with the classical Dittus and Boelter correlation for three different Reynolds numbers.

Abstract

Detailed quantitative maps of the heat transfer distribution near a 180° sharp turn of a square channel with rib turbulators are measured by means of infrared thermography associated with the heated-thin-foil technique. Air flows into the channel where ribs are mounted on two opposite walls and placed at 60° with respect to its axis. Two rib pitches, two different rib arrangements and two heating conditions are investigated. Results are presented in terms of local and averaged Nusselt numbers which are normalized with the classical Dittus and Boelter correlation for three different Reynolds numbers.
