Kunihirella n.g. (type-species K. eracleaensis n.sp.) of the Eraclea Minoa Trubi Formation (Southern Sicily, Italy) is erected from the Early Pliocene. A second species, previously attributed to Swainocythere Ishizaki, 1981, is considered to pertain to the proposed new genus.
