O n 27 March 1985, Ezio Tarantelli was shot dead by terrorists belonging to the Red Brigades. He was only 44 years old, but despite his young age, he had been at the centre of intense debate regarding the prospects for reforming and revitalising the Italian economy, which had entered a period of crisis in the early 1970s.
