Las Islas Canarias en la novela contemporánea de Andrea Abreu y Meryem El Mehdati

Desde la década de 2020, el archipiélago de las Islas Canarias ha cobrado renovada relevancia gracias a las novelas de dos jóvenes escritoras arraigadas en estas islas. Panza de burro, publicada en 2020 por Andrea Abreu López, nacida en Tenerife en 1995, relata la amistad entre dos chicas en un barrio residencial de la isla de la autora. Supersaurio, publicada dos años después, en 2022, por Meryem El Mehdati, nacida en Rabat pero llegada a Gran Canaria con un mes de edad, es una novela con elementos testimoniales en la que la isla desempeña un papel fundamental. Este análisis pretende arrojar luz sobre cómo ambas obras retratan las islas y su entorno, las implicaciones distópicas que revelan y, en última instancia, el turismo de masas descrito por las jóvenes autoras. Since the 2020, the archipelago of the Canary Islands has acquired new importance thanks to the novels of two young writers rooted on these islands. Panza de burro published in 2020 by Andrea Abreu López, born in Tenerife in 1995, tells the story of the friendship between two girls against the backdrop of a suburban neighborhood on the author's island; Supersaurio, published two years later, in 2022, by Meryem El Mehdati, born in Rabat but arriving in Gran Canaria when she was one month old, is configured as a novel with testimonial features in which the island is a relevant circumstance. The analysis proposed here aims to shed light on how the two works portray the islands and their environment, the dystopian reflections that emerge there and, ultimately, the mass tourism described by the young authors.
