In the last twenty years painted chamber tombs have been discovered in Southern Etruria at Veii, Tarquinia, Vulci and Tuscania and they belong to 7th and early 6th cent. BC. Particularly the monuments of Veii and Tarquinia are relevant: the tomb of the Roaring Lions at Veii yielded finds and wall paintings dating to the early 7th cent. BC and it is the earliest painted tomb in Etruria. The painted plaster and the pottery of the tumulus of the Queen at Tarquinia belong to the middle 7th cent. BC and allow to date to that phase the origin of the tomb painting at Tarquinia, whose previous earliest monument, the tomb of the Panthers, date around 600 BC. The new discovered monuments integrate the knowledge about the first development of the Etruscan wall painting and allow to review the origin and the early phases of the wall painting in Southern Etruria.
