Bistatic Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) is a new appealing concept to be exploited for future Earth observation missions. Due to the different involved geometry and scattering mechanism, the images generated by bistatic systems can unveil further information about the observed area with respect to conventional monostatic satellites, paving the way for new applications or complementing already existing ones. One of the most promising fields in which this concept can be used is the maritime one, where the fusion of bistatic and monostatic data can provide noticeable advantages with respect to the use of just one type of images. In this framework, the paper explores possible new maritime products derived from the incoherent combination of monostatic and bistatic SAR data, generated by the upcoming PLATiNO-1 mission from the Italian Space Agency.
