This research examines child custody decisions in case of intimate partner violence (IPV) through a systematic review of the literature on psychological contributions. The selected publications examined, in the international justice system: psychological aspects of custody procedures for children of women victims of domestic violence; the assessments of professionals involved; further factors influencing child custody and visitation decisions; and finally, the professionals’ positions on mediation and father-child contact in IPV cases are also detect. The results indicate the presence of secondary victimization for mothers seeking child custody in cases of intimate partner violence and witnessed violence.

Abstract
