The morphological and geometric complexity of the spaces in the Jewish Catacombs of Venosa necessitated the development of a highly integrated methodology for investigating the sites, capable of interrelating and validating dynamic and scalar data. Consequently, a procedure was implemented to digitize the sites and process the data, aimed at producing a series of referenced models within a single virtual management space. The succession of small spaces characterized by fragmented floors, due to the presence of burial niches, required the use of various dynamic acquisition tools—such as laser scanning, photogrammetry systems, and structured-light systems—selected according to surface complexity and the level of detail needed for study and visualization of the data. The resulting models were processed to support both epigraphic analysis of the inscriptions and the subsequent stages of representation and communication of the monument through digital visualization of the spaces.
