Abstract: This article highlights the influence of Bernardino Telesio’s philosophy on three important ‘Poetiche’ from the late Renaissance in Southern Italy: those by Sertorio Quattromani, Tommaso Campanella, Giulio Cortese. The aim is to show how reading these works through the lens of Telesian thought helps to reconsider and enrich two predominant lines of the studies on 16th-17th century literature. The first line, initiated by Amedeo Quondam, concerns the concept of the semiosphere applied to the Academies in the Kingdom of Naples; the second line – which is encompassed within the first – concerns the hybridism of genres that is typical of the culture of this period, and focuses on the definition of the poema lirico filosofico, also providing an interpretive model for it.
