Like any transition from one model of resource exploitation to another, the advent of renewable energy also involves profound socio-territorial transformations. This is the case of biodigesters, reactors capable of creating the physical place suitable for all anaerobic biodegradation reactions of organic matter that culminate with the production of a gaseous fraction, or biogas – which in turn can be transformed into biomethane – and a solid-liquid fraction, the digestate. Although this appears to be a circular solution, its dependence on economic incentives and localisation dynamics raises interesting questions for critical geography. Through empirical evidence, and the particular cases of Giugliano in Campania (Napoli) and Gricignano di Aversa (Caserta) in the “Terra dei Fuochi”, the contribution aims to understand the conflicts that arise during the transcalar passage of European strategies on energy transition, which descend from the community to the national and local level. By introducing the category of socio-environmental self-determination spaces, the territorial point of view is analysed in the transition.

Abstract
By introducing the category of socio-environmental self-determination spaces, the territorial point of view is analysed in the transition.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
