!e world of incarceration is a complex system, and one possible narrative views penitentiary institutions as scaled reproductions of urban systems. Building upon this analogy, the contribution reflects upon the fragility of the prison, presenting three projects for three Italian penitentiary institutions. These projects are designed with the aim of transforming the prison by creating architectures that strengthen the existing spatial system while offering new opportunities for social interaction and activities.
