In this study., a real distribution network is examined in terms of indirect lightning performance. The aim of this study is to compare the behavior of the network in two different sections., one represented by a straight-line configuration., and the other characterized by multiple interconnections. To account for the randomness of the lightning events., a Monte Carlo procedure has been used. It was found that the protection of open., straight-line sections of the network should be prioritized. Finally., from this preliminary evaluation., the strategic hotspot for future optimization and prioritization of supplementary protection measures has been identified (installation of a shield wire is considered as a basic protection method).

Abstract
