The article investigates the connection between Giambattista Marino and the Accademia degli Svegliati. Its aim is to demonstrate how some of the Southern Italian treatises on poetry influenced the naturalism of Rime amorose (1602). The use of hyperbole, which in Marino is a tool for the analysis and understanding of res naturalis, is indeed a common principle in the Poetiche of Quattromani, Cortese, Campanella. The investigation is carried out through a commentary on selected passages from these treatises, with their proposals being compared to a sample of hyperbolic metaphors from the Rime.
