The essay aims to argue for the relevance of Michel Foucault's genealogical method for the history of political thought. It explores some of the fundamental theoretical axes that mark the French philosopher's genealogical enterprise and highlights the points of convergence and lines of differentiation that this methodological perspective has with Reinhart Koselleck's conceptual history and Quentin Skinner's historiography of political discourse.
