The development of an Intelligent Tool Management Strategy (ITMS) for optimum tool inventory sizing and control of CBN grinding wheels for nickel base alloy turbine blade fabrication is presented. The ITMS is integrated in a Multi-Agent Tool Management System (MATMS) for automatic tool procurement. The MATMS operates in the framework of a negotiation-based multiple-supplier network where a turbine blade producer (customer) requires dressing jobs on worn-out CBN grinding wheels from different external tool manufacturers (suppliers) in a supply network. Test cases of flexible tool management applications are presented to illustrate and assess the ITMS performance.
