The fine book of Mauro Bonazzi looks into the causes which brought about the death sentence of Socrates in 5th century BC Athens. One of these causes is to be found in the similarity of thought and behaviour between Socrates and the sophists. Such a similarity, evident in Aristophanes’ works, is denied in Plato’s dialogues, but it is exactly in those dialogues, if one delves into them deeply enough, that it is possible to find out all the reasons why Socrates was sentenced to death.
