Nuove architetture per le strutture fortificate. Considerazioni progettuali su tre castelli napoletani

Historic castles and fortifications assume a fundamental role of reference in the contemporary city’s prefiguration of urban modifications and transformations, as well as in the definition of its urban image as a whole. By developing an ideal relation between three important monuments of the city of Naples, Castel Sant’Elmo, Castelcapuano and Castel Nuovo become terms of a reasoning characterized by similar assumptions and objectives, albeit related to different urban areas, which demonstrate heterogeneous orographic and morphological situations. The three castles have been investigated through experiences of different nature. Nevertheless, either from design and research point of view they all focus on the attempt to reconfirm the value of recognizability and exceptionality that they cover within the urban fabric, through a reinterpretation of their very architectural elements for a wider urban scale connection.
