Abstract

The fragility of territory and the increase in disasters (such as the recent collapse of the Morandi bridge in Genoa), both of natural and anthropic origin, calls for a change the approach to urban planning that should coexist together with the "panic city". Douglas' cultural theory of risk in the 1980s emphasized the relationship between social consensus and technical knowledge, revealing the need for integration of the two components. The theory of the “antifragility” continues the research on the risk/society relationship proposed by Taleb and applied to socio-economic systems. It has been adapted by Cecchini and Blečić to the urban field with the idea of “antifragile planning”. Its suggested theoretical principles can be developed in the geodesign process proposed by Steinitz as an effective operative tool. The paper advances the application of this proposal in the transport sector, describing an interesting experience carried on in the state of Oregon.
