The Italian and the Spanish situations do not present great differences since the amount of Housing settlements which gets low level of performances is in both cases very notable. The paper provides both some Italian and Spanish examples. The first presents some solutions for re-designing a number of no-longer functional buildings, while the Spanish section is focusing on the very ancient heritage which are mainly technologically and environmentally decayed and abandoned. The shown case studies, two for the south Italian location, and two for the Madrid and Granada sites, are illustrated and some solutions are underlined, so as to face and solve some architectural problems, which are affecting, along years and centuries, also the social and environmental aspects. Applying a sustainable design process for re-qualifying these settlements can allow to create a number of models, indicators and technological solutions, which could be transferred to similar European Mediterranean situations. The social impact will be in fact very high, and could contribute to reduce the vulnerability and the exclusion from some areas.

The policies and the programmes for re-qualifying this built heritage are various and can solve some of the heavy problems affecting the social realms. The Italian and the Spanish situations do not present great differences since the amount of Housing settlements which gets low level of performances is in both cases very notable. The paper provides both some Italian and Spanish examples. The social impact will be in fact very high, and could contribute to reduce the vulnerability and the exclusion from some areas.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
