The sampling and sampling-like technique have been generalized and exploited considering hexagonally sampled representations for band-limited two-dimensional functions. The analysis indicates that for sampling technique, that a saving both of storage and computation over the corresponding operations in the rectangular algorithm can be obtained. These results show the utility of the hexagonal sampling which derive not only from a mathematical formulation, but also from a ″bionic″ point of view, remarking that a compound insect eye, which can be thought of as a phased array, consists of a hexagonal arrangement of simple eyes. The analysis performed in this work for a parabolic reflector, can be extended to shaped reflector configurations thus allowing an optimal use of FFT algorithm in the fast computation of reflector characteristics. 11 refs.

Abstract
