The authors psychoanalytically oriented psychotherapists, outline the peculiar features of some emotional problems related to medical studies by comparing their observations from ten years of clinical experience in this field as well as from teaching activities. They provide an overview of the development of research within their working group. Changes in the broader institutional context are reviewed and the current working hypotheses of the research are put forward. They address the emotional problems related to medical studies as resulting from the interaction of students' subjective worlds, the specific content characteristics of the curriculum, the rules governing this field of education and the identification models proposed by the University.
