Response to surgical stress follows a common pathway, not depending on causal agent. Howeverbasic pathology adds particular aspects to stress response. Cancer, firstly is a summatory of all possible causes of stress, enlarged by a general organism failure, typical of neoplastic patients. Recently many authors proved that some citokines are responsible for postoperative depresion an abnormal response to surgical stress. Higher concentrations of these citokines are associated, not only with an increased mortality rate, but also with am increased risk for subsequent ARDS and MOF, supporting the concept that these syndromes are caused by an over-whelming autodestructive inflammatory response.

Abstract
Response to surgical stress follows a common pathway, not depending on causal agent. Howeverbasic pathology adds particular aspects to stress response. Cancer, firstly is a summatory of all possible causes of stress, enlarged by a general organism failure, typical of neoplastic patients. Recently many authors proved that some citokines are responsible for postoperative depresion an abnormal response to surgical stress. Higher concentrations of these citokines are associated, not only with an increased mortality rate, but also with am increased risk for subsequent ARDS and MOF, supporting the concept that these syndromes are caused by an over-whelming autodestructive inflammatory response.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
