A new automated technique, based on the continuous wavelet transform (CWT), has been developed in order to analyze potential field data. Estimations of horizontal location, depth and structural index are obtained as results utilizing an automated approach. The technique selects the ridges along a user- specified profile and performs an automatic source parameters research. The estimated source position and structural index are characterized by solution attributes that are used to assess the quality of the estimation. A solution selection on the basis of these parameters is subsequently performed. Applications to either synthetic or real-case data show the usefulness of the automated approach.

Abstract

A new automated technique, based on the continuous wavelet transform (CWT), has been developed in order to analyze potential field data. Estimations of horizontal location, depth and structural index are obtained as results utilizing an automated approach. The technique selects the ridges along a user- specified profile and performs an automatic source parameters research. The estimated source position and structural index are characterized by solution attributes that are used to assess the quality of the estimation. A solution selection on the basis of these parameters is subsequently performed. Applications to either synthetic or real-case data show the usefulness of the automated approach.
